Usage: Plane maple is used in instrument making as back and sides for cheaper instruments like back and sides for guitar and lute ribs. It is also used for inlay work (as substitute for ivory for example).

Cut into veneer it finds a wide variety of uses. The veneer (dyed black, green, red and more colors) is used in rosette making, The white bands in the b & w part of the purfling and as veneer under the head plate(the small white line). The black dyed, veneer can also be used as substitute for ebony. often used to make the black lines in purflings and rosette making).
